Procedure
1. Pass the rubber band through the centre of the reel.
2. Through one end of the rubber band, firmly anchor a short piece of skewer.
(Its length should be less than the diameter of the reel.)
3. Fashion the soap into a rough disc (circle) about 4 mm smaller than the reel. You can use scissors to shave the soap into a rough disc (circle). Push a small hole through the centre of the soap.
4. Thread the other end of the rubber band through the hole in the disc shaped piece of soap.
5. Place a longer piece of skewer through the loop in the rubber band that you threaded through the disc of soap.
6. Twist or wind up the rubber band by holding the spool firmly in one hand and rotating the stick with the other.
7. Place the reel on its side and see what happens.

Observations
Record your observations in your notebook. Make a heading, 'Start Your Engine'. Write and draw your observations. Don't forget to label your drawings. The following questions may help you to focus.
1. Are the racers reliable (consistantly good at performing)?
2. What is the soap there for ?
3. Why is the longer piece of skewer important ?
