What is a fact?
A fact is something that can be checked and backed up with evidence, e.g. On 30 September 2014 at 08:04:24 PM (Canberra time), the resident population of Australia is projected to be: 23,630,836. We can check these details by looking at the Australian Bureau of Statistics Population Clock.
A statement of FACT can be proved TRUE or FALSE.
What is an opinion?
An opinion is based on a belief or view. It is not based on evidence that can be checked, e.g. Greg Bird is the best football player in Rugby League. Some people might think there are other players in the Rugby League who are better than Greg Bird.
A statement of OPINION is what someone believes or thinks. There may or may not be a good reason to think this way.
Words that give you clues that a statement is an opinion are believe, best, like, and should.
These words express how someone feels.
