This is Nuwarra Public School, the center of our community. You can even workout which building we are in while we are looking at this map at school.
If someone in class asked you how to get to McDonalds, you'd probably think they should know that. What if they could be new to the area and our class, how would you give them directions? You might tell them to look up 'Google Maps' or 'Where is It?' You might say "Just Google it." Or you could tell them to go out the front gate of the school and turn left. Walk to the end of the road and turn left again........
Task 1
You will be working with Google Maps and Street view to present directions to somewhere, of your choosing from the list, in our local community. You will need to take photos along the way to enhance your directions. All this can be accomplished without leaving this room.
Places to Choose from:
1. Walk around the school block 2. A specific shop in Moorebank Shops
3. Red Rooster 4. House 2 Home
5. Saint Joseph Catholic Primary School 6. Ernie Smith Reserve (cross country)
7. Food Lovers Market 8. Moorebank High School
9. Moorebank Skate Park 10. Negociate with your teacher
You may be wondering how you will be marked, how will you know if the directions you write, will work. Simple - after you complete Task 1 and Task 2, you will give your direction presentation to someone in the class and a map. They will follow your written directions and trace the route on the map. You will soon see if they end up at the place you intended.
Take a look at the map by downloading it any time you wish. There is also a copy of the map on the wall in the computer room.
Good idea to download the Powerpoint Rubric and see how you will be marking yourself, along with your teacher, before you start the presentation. By reading it, you will know how to get the best marks that you can.
